Doug Stanhope on Stern

20 Jun

Stanhope, 49, was a guest on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show on Monday, June 20. “First of all, I blame you for this because last time I was on I misspoke and called her Amanda Heard instead of Amber, and you king of all media should have had some five second delay that corrected that,” he quipped to Stern. “I think the whole lawsuit is just about calling her Amanda on your show.” He joked that Legalzoom.com is defending him in the case. “Anything that I say, they can twist my words,” the comedian complained. “It’s such a bulls–t suit.”

He went on to detail his side of the story about the article, and how it went viral after it was posted on TheWrap on May 29, six days after Heard filed for divorce from Depp. “I put it on my website. The title was ‘At a Loss for Words’ … whatever it was. TheWrap got it as an exclusive, however that worked, and said, ‘Amber Heard Is Blackmailing Johnny Depp — This Is How I Know.’ I didn’t write that f–king title. I didn’t put that stupid tabloid title in there. I’m a better writer than that, so I don’t know if it’s hinged on that, I don’t know how much of it is spite.”

While Heard called the piece “highly defamatory,” Stanhope said that the Alice Through the Looking Glass actor was happy with it. “I had no contact with [Depp] until he texted me after that went out and said, ‘Hey, thanks for being honest.’ He didn’t know that was going out. I was a little petrified because it kind of made him look like a bitch. ‘Cause he was kind of a bitch,” he said.

Although he admitted it “still feels like name-dropping,” Stanhope maintained that he didn’t write the op-ed for publicity, and said the lawsuit is comical to him because he doesn’t have millions of dollars to lose. “The idea of some Hollywood supermodel lady winning all of my s–t … She would be locking the doors driving down my street even without seeing a person. I live on the Mexican border in this dirty pothole-riddled neighborhood.”

Stanhope still stands by what he wrote, and repeated his allegations from the article on the radio show. “I visited him that day,” he said of May 21, the day Heard says Depp hit her with a cellphone during a violent argument. “He was alluding to the fact that she was going to do something like this. She didn’t come out until a week later that that happened. But it happened that night, and he was alluding to she’s going to do something like this.”

“I think what she’s trying to do is make me shut the f–k up,” Stanhope concluded. “Because I can’t say anything about it, and now I’m talking more.”

    I believe him……

    • Awaiting my escape June 20, 2016 at 4:12 pm #

He has no reason to lie. When that piece came out the public was still believing Amber and it looked liked Doug was supporting an abuser, I’m glad he spoke up to tell the truth.

Good for Stanhope to stand up for Johnny especially during that time when shiz just hit the fan and everyone was too much in shock to react.

Reading the article i saw Doug said he received a text from Johnny “Hey, Thanks for being honest” Am i here the only one thinking that’s a sign about a “forced silence”? If he didn’t want to talk he didn’t even send that text.

i dont get what you’re trying to say, could you explain please?

He said he was going to tell Howard Stern all about it off the air lucky Howard! Love how she claims not to know him when there’s that picture of him and Raquel and Bingo and Johnny and Amanda available online.

    • Liz June 20, 2016 at 5:29 pm #

You mean many photos. My fav was the one where her gf and eve faithful witness is laying between Johnny and Amber and the women are all tangled up together.
I have to wonder if there were some three ways happening. If so that should completely throw out her friend as a witness!

      • Andy June 20, 2016 at 6:03 pm #

He’ll Raquel is from Austin. Not surprising

I think that this bitch is wasting her time dragging Doug to court. And that bit about any money awarded to her will go to a worthy cause is a joke. Yeah, a worthy cause alright…her pocket book!!!

I think we need to start a “Doug Stanhope Legal Fund against Amber Heard”. I have always said money talks, BS walks. We can actually show Ms. Heard who we actually support. I grew up in the Appalachian region Johnny talks about, in a one horse town, I have seen girls like this in action, it boils my blood. I would certainly be the first to contribute. Help Doug, indirectly support Johnny Depp, and tell Ms. Heard to kiss our butts.

    • Andy June 20, 2016 at 6:44 pm #

      Hmmm Great idea.

    • miss.betty June 20, 2016 at 10:13 pm #

There isn’t really much of a case against Stanhope, his piece was written as a personal account of his experience. Per attorney pal, all that is needed is a statement from JD that he had the conversation to which Stanhope alludes. The problem with the article is the title which was courtesy of The Wrap… I’m sure they must be among the 20 yet unnamed defendants. It is so bizarre that Charles Harder took this case.

If a settlement is reached between JD & AH prior to the TRO hearing, it is highly likely that none of the crazy will be aired publicly. All there needs to be, though, is some legal outing and documentation disproving almost anything in AH’s statements and there is no more case. Well, best case scenario, of course… I am not exactly very trusting of the legal system.

I have not found any trace of a response to the initial filing, nor am I aware of any of the other defendants having been named. Admittedly, I haven’t looked that hard. Stanhope did not seem to be that concerned, but if this thing does to trial, I’m starting a fund to drive out to Arizona to watch it go down!

Let’s do it. I would have to rely on you to get it started. I wouldn’t know how to begin.

    What about fundme?

    • Andy June 20, 2016 at 7:45 pm #

Thats a legit place. Who’s gonna do it?

      • saufampere June 20, 2016 at 10:14 pm #

gofundme is not a good choice as it keeps a certain percentage of the funds to itself. youcaring is a better choice, all the money goes to the cause

      • miss.betty June 20, 2016 at 11:31 pm #

It may be a good idea to contact Stanhope and ask if he would even want this. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes legally… just to make sure all is kosher. Despite good intentions, we’d not want to be presumptuous and put this guy into yet another uncomfortable situation.

        • Andy June 20, 2016 at 11:31 pm #

          Yes exactly ^^^

  13. Louise June 20, 2016 at 7:45 pm #

It’s a kind thought, but JD has about $400 million, I’m guessing he’ll cough up for his buddy.

    • Andy June 20, 2016 at 7:46 pm #

      Presumptuous and Rude

    • Andy June 20, 2016 at 7:49 pm #

No way! Just so other people can say DEPP PAID HIM OFF? WTF?!

      • LZ June 21, 2016 at 6:46 am #

        Andy, chill. 🙂

When I read about the schmuck’s defamation lawsuit against Stanhope, I did also think that perhaps JD would help him with the legal fees because he knows his friend’s financial status and how expensive the process would be. It could also be his token gesture of appreciation for what Doug did. However, yes, you are right that his doing so could be spun as if he did pay him off. Nonetheless, it’s not remote that he’d offer him help to pay for his legal fees. I reckon he’d be quiet about it. You probably know that he’s done many charitable deeds sans publicity.

@miss.betty’s idea of getting Stanhope’s permission to go ahead with the crowdfunding is proper and ethical. If JD offers help, he can tell him about it. The crowdfunding – regardless of how much it gets – will boost not just Stanhope’s morale, but also his.

        • Andy June 21, 2016 at 7:40 am #

Chill? I’m not gung-ho. I just wanted to know who was doing it and agreed Stanhope should be asked. WTF

          • mud6352@gmail.com June 21, 2016 at 3:30 pm #

Dont like that you were told to chill no reason you should have been told thatyour the best Andy

        • Andy June 21, 2016 at 7:41 am #

I’m sorry. Why the fuck again was I called out???

    • Kieran Foster June 20, 2016 at 8:42 pm #

Yeah and I’m worth about 40.00 until payday. Lol

Can someone correct me if I’m wrong, I know Ricky g. Was one of the ones that raised money for the atheist tornado victim in Moore, OK. He would have experience with large scale projects to Raise money and it might get more publicity that way, not that I’m volunteering him……

That way if Johnny wanted to DONATE money to the cause it wouldn’t lead directly back to him as a payoff, and it would not be EXPECTED of him to fund a defense for bullshit charges that are going to get dropped anyway. Do you know how hard it is to prove a defamation lawsuit????

Poople Mag just posted about Doug’s Stern interview. They’ve given Andy another Johnny injury pic: look at Amanda’s sharp thumbnail about to dig into a wound on Johnny’s right thumb.

Thoughts after a few hours rest:
The way that Spector’s less than elegant petition was pretty damed close to extortion, setting demands for payment & property terms right out if the gate rather than focusing on the primary DV issue. The mention of even having considered serving papers to JD at the ‘Alice’ premiere is threatening… ‘do as we bid lest we humiliate you in public and attempt to do irrevocable harm to your career’, etc.
That pretty much seems blackmail-ish, no?
The petition states that the article was written via a malicious campaign coordinated by JD and his ‘powerful representatives’ who are available to “do his bidding”, blah, blah, blah… This all in attempt to bring JD’s wide circle of professional & personal contacts in the film, music & fashion industries into question whom AH was depending on to give her work, essentially. This so that she could blame loss of work on JD & Stanhope’s blog-post-gone-wild, rather than because she lost control of her game and revealed her true harpy extraordinaire self.
Suing Stanhope works great for AH because he would, as he said, have to shut the fuck up… be unable to speak about her at a time when she needed to lead the narrative. He was a wild card that she did not expect to be played, and might Harder’s actual target here be The Wrap? This is, after all, the guy that almost took Gawker down via the Hulk Hogan case.

There’s no way to edit these comments, is there?

The way that Spector’s less than *elegantly worded* petition…

The other part of the Stanhope case is the 20 John Doe’s to be named later. That was to shut up EVERYONE, because one knew whose name would get added to that list. It could and would be anyone that dare speak out against, that poor defenseless, Southern belle who is so traumatized that she goes out partying with her friends the very next day without a care in the world. Just more BS.

I was on TMZ and a person that is in a law field answered in relation to that – it was everyone probably in the room that day when he was talking to Doug.

They stated that what she was trying to attempt was conspiracy to defame. Which has two components: a crime and a civil matter.

They stated her claim is junk motivated by spite and recrimination. They stated that it was probably so Doug would carry his own costs and that may have been her intent. Go look on TMZ from yesterday in game off about a day ago.. Fantastic read from great blogger. It is quite a long post so check it out.

If we start a go fund me Doug, I am in to. Someone mentioned already on the forum and I think it is a great idea.
