Johnny Depp is said to be ‘closing the chapter’ on his life with former partner Vanessa Paradis after he put the former couple’s sprawling estate on the market for £16million.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star’s decision to sell the home he spent 14 years and millions of pounds to restore, comes just four months after Depp married Amber Heard, 23 years his junior.
And it seems he has decided to leave the memories of his past life behind as well, as the sprawling 37-acre property is being sold fully furnished, with DVDs still filling the bookshelves.
Alexander Kraft, chairman and chief executive of Sotheby’s International Realty France, who is selling the £16million property, revealed: ‘Johnny had decided to sell the Plan de la Tour property to close this chapter of his life and move on.
‘He hopes that someone else will enjoy the property as much as he did and bring him or her the same happiness it brought.’
If all that isn’t enough, the 4,300 sq foot main home boasts five bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms and an art studio where the actor indulged in another of his passions – painting.
And if prospective buyers still require rooms for summer guests there are several cottages plus a bizarre covered wagon outfitted with a bathroom and kitchen.
His life in his French idyll, away from the glare of the cameras and Hollywood, was said to be precious to him as he used it as a base.
‘There’s a great simplicity at our place in France at certain times of the day you could feel like it could be today, it could be mid-nineteenth century, or it could be the early 1600s,’ Depp revealed once.
‘And I really love that about our place.’
But now there are rumours that he and Heard are on to his next big property project – and it is said high on his wishlist is a Downtown Abbey style-home.
But now, as his agent Mr Kraft says, it’s time to move on.
‘He used the property extensively to get away from the Hollywood hustle, recharge his batteries and reconnect with nature,’ he said.
‘He truly loved this property which allowed him to lead a normal, tranquil life and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.
‘It is here where he taught his kids to appreciate such essential values as respect of nature and a healthy down to earth lifestyle.’
