More Time Off for Johnny Depp

24 Mar

Johnny isn’t due back in Australia until the latter part of April. It’s been extended three weeks. Given the time off, it’s enough time for healing after a surgery.

Pirates of the Caribbean to shoot at Doug Jennings Park on The Spit as Broadwater becomes Hollywood backdrop

CALL them the Pirates of the Broadwater: the Gold Coast’s own blockbuster is headed for The Spit.

The fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie will begin shooting at Doug Jennings Park on The Spit within months, it can be revealed.

Gold Coast Waterways Authority president Hal Morris said construction crews would clear the area of illegal campers (see below) by the end of this month.

“We will fence off the area so no one will be allowed into the set while they are filming,” he said.

“We are also negotiating with relevant authorities to find a solution to the illegal camping problem.”

Construction crews are believed to have been working on another massive ship, the skeleton of the Rainbow Gypsy, this time for a new outdoor set on the water at Doug Jennings Park.

Mr Morris confirmed filming at the site was planned for June, depending on weather.

“Construction of the set will commence from 30 March and bump out by 15 June 2015. A small amount of Doug Jennings Park will be used during the actual filming days for set, trucks/vans and employees’ parking.”

Access will be blocked to unauthorised traffic during filming.

Mr Morris said the vessel would be built on tracks to capture the ocean backdrop.

The news comes as producers of the $250 million blockbuster prepare to shut down filming for three weeks in April while they wait for Johnny Depp to return to Australia to resume work.

Filming on the fifth film in the franchise began in February and is due to wrap in July.

The Spit is believed to replace far north Queensland as the location for water scenes.

Directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg have so far filmed scenes at two huge, purpose-built outdoor sets at Maudsland and Helensvale, and indoors at Village Roadshow Studios.

It’s not the first time filmmakers have used the unique coastal configuration of The Spit — which enables them to turn scenes around as the sun’s position changes during the day — to capture key scenes.

The Spit was also home to a large ship built for filming on 2008 psychological horror film Triangle, while the producers of Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader built a giant boat at Cleveland for their shoot in 2010. “The tank at the studios isn’t big enough and isn’t a proper horizon tank, but if a small film like Triangle and a huge film like Pirates can both simulate reliably on water scenes at The Spit, they don’t really need to use the water tanks at the studios.

“The producers of Pirates won’t be compromising. If (The Spit) is good enough for them, it’s good enough for anyone.”

Disney executives are reportedly “none too happy” progress on filming has all but stalled since Depp returned to the US to seek treatment for an injury to his hand, which he sustained during a break from filming earlier this month.

Then again…if it were surgery they would have stated he would be gone for 6+ weeks in the beginning. Perhaps he is taking care of other family business.

Has anyone seen this one? This sounds the most believable of all the stories regarding Depp’s “injury”. Argued a month after the wedding with the new mrs., If they are such a happy couple why are they arguing a month after getting married. He was frustrated with her in Tokyo and he was frustrated with her at the Met Gala. I do believe, she bought that first show-off ring to get the attention she wanted and her PR made her tone it down, she pushed the whole thing to a marriage he didn’t want, but he got trapped in having to go along with it. He was probably told the sooner he did it, the sooner he could get out of it. Honestly what would these two have to argue about, his drinking??? Why is a “happily married man” drinking? Because he’s NOT happy, that’s why. And she has done NOTHING to help him. she drinks when he’s around worst thing she can do. She just a dumb, selfish bitch.

This relationship is definitely a train wreck. They haven’t even been married for 2 months…I’m sure the argument was over something she didn’t get…..or maybe because he stayed “down under”, instead of flying to London to be with her.

“”The popular actor had been staying at Doohan’s waterfront mansion since he arrived on the Coast late last month to reprise his role as rum-loving pirate Sparrow.

“He was on a bender with mates at the house and apparently lost his cool — a la Russell Crowe — after he got into an argument with his wife (model and actress Amber Heard) on the phone,” an source said.

“He lashed out and hit a glass door and that’s how he hurt his hand and a couple of fingers.””

Wasn’t there a post awhile back, that said JAMBER was screaming to someone on the phone and was late for filming her next scene, while in London?
