Amber Heard Sci-Fi and Johnny Depp

31 Aug

Recently we learned from Amber that she loves sci-fi. The Conan O’Brien Show featured the icy blond telling Conan that she’s a sci-fi nerd who can also hot-wire a car!

That’s just great. Know what’s been in the works for some time now? It just may be brought to life in 2015.

Johnny Depp has been getting into the comic book adaptation game of late – and, in typical Depp fashion, he’s primarily interested in bringing more obscure and strange titles to the big screen.

Earlier this year, there was news that Depp would produce an adaptation of the alternate history comic series Rex Mundi through his Infinitum Nihil production company. Now, he’s teaming up with GK Films for a cinematic version of The Vault, the sci-fi comic from writer Sam Sarkar and illustrator Garrie Gastonny (the team responsible for the Arthurian legend re-imagining Caliber) due to hit bookstands within the week.

Depp and his Nihil president Christi Dembrowski are producing the Vault movie alongside GK’s Graham King and Tim Headington. King, as it were, previously collaborated with Depp on Rango and is working behind the scenes on Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Hugo adaptation as well.

With the right people working behind the scenes, The Vault could actually make for an entertaining new sci-fi/horror tale, despite its similarities (on the surface, at least) to other entries in both genres. That staple “archaeological expedition uncovers ancient evil” can serve as the backdrop for an effective thriller, as it does in H.P. Lovecraft’s original At the Mountains of Madness novella. On the other hand, that was also the narrative setup for AVP: Alien vs. Predator, so good results are not exactly guaranteed.

Depp’s Rex Mundi adaptation is being brought to life by screenwriting duo Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal (who received story credit for TRON: Legacy), so don’t be surprised to hear about The Vault securing some noteworthy writing talent for scripting duties in the future. As always, we’ll keep you posted.

Oh and let’s not forget Transcendence that’s coming out this next year.

I like whatever you like, darling, because I am a strong and independent individualist.

That is definitely an older piece. Hugo was out in 2011. Could still be relevant, especially if they are stepping up the pre-production process now.
Also, Sam Sarkar is a long time friend of Johnny’s.

I did notice it was older with the Hugo mention. I have no idea if The Vault will come to fruition but at least we know it’s been out there long before Amber Heard made mention of loving Sci-Fi.

Yes, but if she knew about this, that’s WHY she mentioned the sci-fi. Maybe this is the action role she is expecting to get? A sci-fi based action graphic novel movie. Depp’s company hasn’t produce much in the way of a good solid movie yet. Hugo was probably the best and had several producers attached. If he puts Heard in any of this, I’m betting it’s a flop. Matter of fact it seems that since the 2 of them have been associated with each other since TRD neither one of them as made any real noteworthy movies. I think they both lack focus. That’s actually what I got out of the Lone Ranger, Dark Shadows, The Tourist, as well as POTC4 (the franchise sold, his performance was mediocre at best) Depp was phoning it in. Maybe he really does need to retire, he’s lost his edge.

Well this would explain GK acquiring the rights to tomb raider movie franchise back in 2011, & game revamp earlier this year.
Who knows, since Angie retired from Laura this might/will bring all open doors directly to our favorite girl when time comes. (If it hasnt already) Maybe she’s already doing the sequel to the game, if Olivia isn’t already. Better yet, she does so well in the rubber outfits maybe she can be the next catwoman. It would only make sense since Ben is now batman, & he is w/GK. Sad though. She loves playing those cute little guessing games for the public when she is wearing all the Liberace jewelry & trucker shirts. Shame she didnt make it more obvious though with the outdated bat shirt she was wearing.

The way Hollywood goes, you do something for me and I will do something for you. Johnny was desperate to get The Rum Diary out and could get no distributors, GK got into it. My guess is that he told Johnny ‘I’ll become a producer and get you the distribution you need, if you will agree to do a movie for me’. THAT movie was The Tourist. He had Angie, but knew he needed another big name to make it go. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very good script. At the time when Johnny was added to The Tourist, the movie was dead in the water. It was Johnny’s name that brought it back to life.
